Ayuntamiento de Barcelona | IoT
Challenge
The Barcelona City Council requests **the creation of an Internet of Things (IoT) platform that transforms the city's basic infrastructures and optimizes the use of energy and resources** to turn Barcelona into a smart city that improves sustainability and quality of life for the population.
Solution
The solution was Sentilo, our on-premise IoT platform that collects, manages, and disseminates the information** collected by sensors distributed in cities. The data has been transformed into visual and intuitive information with views of massive data flows in real time.
Sentilo is also available in a cloud version under the name of Thingtia. Thingtia operates on a scalable and open architecture, with open-source components such as Redis, MySQL, and Mongo databases, Hibernate, JSON, or JQuery. Thingtia avoids vertical solutions and makes data exchange easier. It also reduces dependence on certain technologies, products, and providers. Its use is an alternative to vertical ITC solutions organized in silos.
Results
The platform has allowed **Barcelona to be transformed with more efficient and cost-effective services, reducing noise pollution and traffic congestion**.
It has been a key element in Barcelona's emergence on the map of **smart cities**.
